Spread the Word: Peanut Butter Sandwich Day Is Officially a Thing

We love peanut butter sandwiches... who doesn’t? In an age of national days celebrating Bubble Wrap, chocolate-covered raisins and talking like a pirate, we wanted to show peanut butter sandwiches some love by creating #peanutbuttersandwichday.

Some may say, “Why create another national day when we already have National Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Day, as well as National Peanut Butter Day?” But what about all the other peanut butter sandwich creations that go beyond PB and J? What about Nutella, or bacon? Pretzels and chocolate chips. Chicken and hot honey. The possibilities are endless... and delicious!

Peanut Butter: An American Staple

Ninety-four percent of American households have peanut butter in their pantries right now. That’s over 300 million people! How did we get here? Peanut butter wasn’t always around for us to lavishly spread on all our favorite foods, from bread and Oreos to apples and celery.

As early as 950 B.C., the Incas developed a paste made out of ground peanuts. In 1884, Marcellus Gilmore Edson patented peanut paste, and in 1895 Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (yes, the cereal dude) patented the process for creating peanut butter from raw peanuts.

A few short years later, in 1903 Dr. Ambrose patented a peanut-butter-making machine on February 24th, which is why we decided to create National Peanut Butter Sandwich Day today.

You heard me right, a peanut butter machine! Now I’m wondering how I get my hands on one of those?

National Peanut Butter Sandwich Day: A New Tradition

Because of our obsession love for peanut butter — and to express gratitude to the original peanut butter pioneers — we decided to make today a national day to celebrate peanut butter sandwiches in all their glory.

At Nebo, we’re celebrating with an entire day devoted to making peanut butter sandwiches. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., we’re pulling out all the stops. Seven different types of bread. Seven variations of peanut butter. An endless amount of toppings (39 to be exact). Just imagine the possibilities!

Lest we get stuck in a rut and fall back on our favorites like peanut butter, banana and honey (my personal favorite), our team built a crazy Peanut Butter Sandwich Generator to help us stay adventurous in celebrating this special day.

Try one if you dare! There are over 2,686,866 possibilities.

Not only are we celebrating yummy peanut butter inventions, but we also get to celebrate the innovation from our hardworking team members that made our peanut butter sandwich daydream a reality.

Happy National Peanut Butter Sandwich Day!
