Who Knew? The Hidden Talents Inside Nebo

The curtains have officially closed at the Nebo Art Gallery, and we’re still thinking about it.
The Nebo Gallery was an art gallery hosted by us, for us, with an open call to anyone who wanted to take part — no talent required. People from every department answered, and the submissions ranged from paintings and photography to poems and silent short films. We also saw crocheted ducks and painted rocks, because apparently we’re jacks-of-all-trades.
None of it would have happened without our Culture Team. Tiffany Dang, Kory Gabriel, Jenna Stover, Devyn Tucker and Kyle Kinard dreamed up the gallery and helped bring it to life. They collected submissions, hung frames, printed decals and even contributed some artwork of their own. In total, 17 artists participated, representing departments across the company.
The grand opening began with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and Neebs from far and wide showed up to support their fellow artists (they were definitely not there for the chili cook-off happening that same day). The office was packed with people celebrating, eating good food and admiring the work of our peers.

But don't worry, the gallery wasn't just limited to those of us in the building. Our hybrid setup brought the experience to the remote folks at Nebo, too. Sure, we weren't in the same room, but we were all there to celebrate Nebo’s creativity (and some great wi-fi connection).
One of our favorite parts of the gallery was simply giving people the spotlight they deserve. At Nebo, we’re surrounded by talented people every day, and most of the time we only see that talent through the work and projects we do together. The gallery gave our artists a space to show off something they made just because they wanted to, and gave the rest of us a chance to say, “Wow, you made that?”
And we didn’t just get to admire the work for the two weeks the gallery remained in our office. Thanks to the art swap, attendees could take a piece of the gallery home with them.
At work, we’re often known by our titles. It’s a quick way to explain what we do, but it doesn’t say much about who we are. The gallery reminded us that creativity isn’t confined to the creative team, and that great work isn’t just for clients.
Who knew that someone on the paid social team was a prodigy with pastels, or that someone on the SEO team knew a thing or two about acting? These are people we work alongside every day, and we never would have guessed. That’s the point. Everyone has skills and interests that go well beyond their job description, and the hobbies people pursue outside of work are a big part of what makes them who they are.

The gallery was a showcase, but it was also a gathering. It pulled people from different departments, desk huddles and even cities into the same celebration, and gave us something to talk about besides deadlines (okay, and chili). People bonded over each other’s work, swapped stories about how pieces came to be and connected with coworkers they might not otherwise cross paths with.

That’s what we’ll remember most about the Nebo Gallery. It let everyone’s talent, creativity and abilities shine, and it reminded us that we’re a team of multifaceted people who happen to work together, not just a collection of job titles.
We can't wait to do it again.
