The Woman, The Myth, The Legend: Celebrating 18 Years of a Nebo Icon

Tuesday, January 22, 2008. “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain was number one on the charts and dominated the speakers of the old Nebo office. MySpace was defending its turf from a new website called Facebook, and we were all logging out of AIM and signing up for GChat.

Businesses hadn’t made it to Facebook yet. But if Nebo had a status, it would have been this: “Nebo is about to be changed forever.” Because that day, a brand new intern walked into the office for her first day of work.

Enter Jenn Vickery.

Back then, Jenn was working toward a GA Tech diploma and had a closet full of skinny jeans and more ambition than we could have ever predicted. Today, Jenn is Executive Vice President of Product Innovation at Nebo.

On her journey from intern to EVP, Jenn has racked up awards, headed and launched multiple teams, adopted two of our favorite rescue dogs, gotten happily married, and touched a lot of lives, both in and out of the office. Needless to say, she’s one of our best hires of all time.

To celebrate 18 years of Jenn, we put together a list of 18 things we love about her.

  1. She has impeccable style.
It’s no secret that around the office, Jenn is a fashion icon. In the words of Haley Norton, “She is cooler than I will ever be, and I love her sense of style.”

  2. Her athletic prowess is scary.
There’s a reason ”Run Jenn” was a play on the Nebo flag football team. From 5Ks to marathons, Jenn is an apex predator.

  3. For such a smart and cool person, Jenn is super down to Earth.
No one can put it better than Brian Alsobrook: “Jenn was my boss when I first joined Nebo, and I loved how approachable she was. She did not have an ego and didn’t pretend to know everything. Despite having far more experience than anyone else on our team, she didn’t just say ‘do it this way.’ She listened to new ideas and collaborated with us when we ran into unexpected challenges. It was my first marketing job and in a whole new city, but Jenn had a calming confidence that was infectious and helped me roll with all the obstacles that came my way.”

  4. She is our secret cool cousin. (Like actually.)
“My favorite Jenn story was when she found out she was related somehow to Donovan, who was on our Intel team. I think they worked together for like a year before they found out.” -Erin Elijah

  5. She gives a damn.
Jenn isn’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. She pushes us to be better people and to examine our core beliefs. Over the years, she’s held us to a high standard, and we’re better off for it.

  6. Beer Friday kudos read by Jenn? We’ll be there.
We have a Slack channel just for giving teammates #kudos here at Nebo. Every Friday at our all-agency gathering, someone reads them out loud. When that someone is Jenn, we are overjoyed. “Nothing excites Jenn more than reading a nice, long, kudos. The more detailed, the better. Her joy is contagious. She should read Kudos every week.” -Brian Easter, probably

  7. She’s one of the smartest people we know.
Seriously. She’s been the brain behind the creation and success of multiple high-performing teams at Nebo, turning big ideas into even bigger results. Her intelligence shows up not just in the award-winning projects she drives, but in how she brings people together. If you get to work on a project with Jenn, consider yourself lucky that you are about to get a masterclass in strategic thinking and leadership.

  8. A business trip with Jenn is a treat.
There’s no better travel companion than Jenn Vickery. When everyone else falls asleep on the canal tour in Italy, she’ll stay awake to keep watch. When you forget to bring beach attire to San Diego and find yourself walking down the hot sand in a full business suit, she’ll be there right beside you.

  9. She takes care of all of the green Jolly Ranchers for us.
The office candy drawer is always stocked with Jolly Ranchers, and Jenn raids the green ones. If we had to eat all of those ourselves, it would just be too many. Thank you, Jenn.

  10. She’s a Neboween queen.
Over the years, Jenn has brought major game to the Neboween costume contest. In 2013, she won first place dressed as Sophia from The Golden Girls.

  11. She’s not afraid to speak up.
Jenn is a master of balancing positivity, tact, and feedback. She won’t let a project go awry just because she doesn’t want to rock the boat. “Jenn will tell me I’m wrong with complete confidence and without fear,” says Brian Easter. And that’s a hard trait to find.

  12. Jenn loves cheese.
Also chips and salsa. And we love that for her.

  13. “Unflappable” is her middle name.
When there’s a fire on a project, Jenn is the person you want around. She always keeps her cool and maintains her confidence. And when something unexpected happens on a Zoom call, her poker face can’t be cracked.

  14. When the zombie apocalypse happens, we hope we’re trapped with her.
“Jenn is my number one pick for a post-apocalypse survival team. I just know she could take care of some shit.” -Chelsie Rivera

  15. Jenn is a mentor and an inspiration.
In the course of eighteen years, Jenn has helped many, many Nebo employees reach their full potential. She knows when to push and when to just listen, how to lead by example, and how to uplift the people around her.

  16. Jenn is loyal to the end. Especially when it comes to sports.
We appreciate Jenn’s love, loyalty, and support of her favorite teams despite GA Tech and the Falcons consistently letting her down.

  17. Kirby and Spec.
We can’t talk about Jenn without mentioning her two rescue dogs, Kirby and Spec. They’re so adorable, you’d never guess that they’re also criminal masterminds.

  18. We wouldn’t be the same without her.
If you couldn’t tell by now, Jenn has had a huge impact on all of us here at Nebo. She’s one of the core reasons we’ve grown for 22 consecutive years without ever laying off a single employee. She’s pushed all of our service lines forward and into the future. She’s been the main driver behind some exciting product launches we’re about to announce. In short, Jenn is one of the reasons that Nebo is Nebo.

We’d like to say hiring her was one of the best choices we ever made, but the truth is, Jenn chose us. And we’re so lucky that she did.
