BRAND & AUDIENCE INSIGHTS
The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Woodruff Library – affectionately deemed “Club Woody” by students – is a primarily undergraduate library serving the historically black colleges and universities that make up the AUC: Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College and the Interdenominational Theological Center. What the library offers is not simply a way to get information, but rather a way to discuss that information with peers and create something with it in a communal context. As a part of the AUC Woodruff Library mission, it is vital that the services provided, the building and the community and staff of the library remain relevant to the 21st century learner. The library therefore must maintain a leadership position in technology, and, as a key access point to the library’s services, it was time for the old website – a poor representation of the brand, difficult to navigate and not mobile-friendly – to be addressed.
SOLVING THE PROBLEM
Nebo designed and built a responsive site that allows students, teachers and visitors to find what they need quickly and easily. The new website highlights key actions that users didn’t know they should take on the old site, such as reserving rooms, searching the library’s world class archives and encouraging donations to the library, a 501c3 non-profit. To help the AUC Woodruff Library better serve its community, we:
- Applied a human-centered approach to bring users into the creative process, from early customer research to full site usability testing.
- Created a streamlined website that is optimized for mobile and tablet usage
- Engaged users with straightforward calls to action and valuable resources so that they’d continue to interact beyond the home page
- Showcased the strong cultural identity and reputation that the AUC Woodruff Library maintains offline
